Radial Shockwave Therapy

Radial Shockwave Therapy

What is Radial Shockwave Therapy?

Radial shockwave therapy (RSWT) is a non-invasive treatment method that uses acoustic shockwaves to treat various musculoskeletal conditions. These shockwaves are sound waves that carry high energy to injured or painful areas of the body with various acute and/or chronic conditions. This energy promotes and accelerates healing, reduces pain and assists with the regeneration of the bones, tendons, and other soft tissues. The Gymna Shockmaster 300 is a device designed for this type of therapy.

How Does It Work?

The Gymna Shockmaster 300 is a device that uses compressed air to generate high-energy pneumatic percussions that are delivered to the targeted area using a hand-held applicator. These shockwaves propagate radially from the point of contact and penetrate the tissue to a depth of up to 3-4 cm.

Biological effects include increased blood flow at the cellular level to enhance circulation to promote healing, the stimulation of collagen production to encourage the body to produce collagen, aiding in the repair and remodelling of damaged tissues, as well as providing pain relief by desensitising nerve endings & restore mobility.

Indications

RSWT is commonly used to treat conditions such as:

  • Chronic back and neck pain
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
  • Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis)
  • Patellar tendinopathy (jumper's knee)
  • Shoulder tendinopathy (including calcific tendonitis)
  • Muscle trigger points

Combining chiropractic care with shockwave therapy offers a comprehensive approach to treating musculoskeletal conditions. Treatment with Radial Shockwave Therapy (RSWT) in conjunction with chiropractic care typically involves 2-6 sessions, spaced weekly. RSWT has no side effects, although you might experience mild pain or discomfort during or immediately after the treatment, which quickly subsides. It is advisable to avoid strenuous activity for 48 hours to allow the body to heal.
